The article examines various resonances of the “speech technology” (Sprechkunde) current in German and Russian-Soviet context of 1900–1920s. It contains first of all a brief history of the techniques of speech in Germany, an inquiry into some psychophysical sources of the “speech technology” and a survey of the contribution of German “new rhetoric” to this movement. The Russian counterparts of this trend include the Institute of the Living Word (Institut živogo slova, 1918–1923), some Russian formalists, the scenic speech specialists and the theatre pedagogues. Publisher Summary Vacuoles of plant cells were discovered with the early light microscope and, as meant by the etymology of the word, were subsequently defined as the cell space empty of cytoplasmic matter. As usual in experimental science, methodological and instrumental progress has delineated differently the present definitions of vacuoles, which largely depend on the tools and concepts used for their study. This chapter discusses the biogenesis of vacuoles. Biochemistry and physiology of the vacuole have been made possible by the isolation of intact vacuoles. Some reflections on Fuzzy Set Theory as an Experimental Science

The aim of this paper is to open a critical discussion on the claim, recently presented in the community and especially heralded by Enric Trillas, that fuzzy logic should be seen as an “experimental science”. The first interesting aspect of such remark is whether and in which way such position has consequences on the real development of the research, or if it is simply a (different) way of looking at the same phenomenon. As a consequence, we investigate the possible connection to Zadeh’s distiction between Fuzzy logic in a restricted sense and in a general sense. Resumen La investigación aborda la influencia que tiene la participación en la investigación educativa en la calidad de la enseñanza de docentes de ciencias experimentales de Argentina y España. Se han utilizado tres vías de acceso a la actividad educativa de dichos docentes: un cuestionario, una entrevista semiestructurada y la observación de clases, con seis apartados y 34 ítems. Fuzziness as an experimental science: an homage to Claudio Moraga

In this contribution we collect a few considerations and remarks on such apparently unrelated topics as: an early paper by Norbert Wiener on the Nature of Mathematics; mathematical logic’s heritage on the formalization of reasoning; cognitive aspects on the modalities of drawing conclusions. We hope that reading the present paper will show that they are, neverthless, related in some way at least for what regards the problem of reasoning in the presence of uncertainty, showing a network of concepts that can help considering again the innovating aspects of fuzziness—in our opinion a more than fit homage to Claudio Moraga’s interdisciplinary approach to fuzziness.
